Welcome to The Wonky Wanderer blog! I’m sure you’re asking yourself “Why call it The Wonky Wanderer? isn’t that a little weird?” Well, you’d be right, it is! And there’s two reasons for it. The first being that yes, the observatory is a little…lopsided…

This is the result of the many mistakes made during its construction. You see, sometimes DIY is pretty straight forward, other times your obsessive personality drives you to continue building something outside of your skillset, no matter the cost or obstacles. What happened is most certainly the latter.
The second reason is that my dear best friend, a border collie named Guinness, was there every step of the way. Through every cold night welding, or wandering around the paddocks while I ironed out some new issue

And as you can see, he’s a little wonky himself. You’d think he was just being cute, but this kind of how he is these days. No need to stress though! He’s doing well, but more on that another time. For now just know that he was a big help getting this together.

So that’s all there really is to it! One is a little wonky and wanders the paddocks, the other is a little wonky and wanders the night skies. Plus I figured the observatory needs a name, right? So why not name it in honor of the best friend someone could have?
I hope you enjoyed this little explainer, and I hope you stick around for more! In this blog I’ll be covering how (not) to build an observatory, what’s involved in astrophotography, new images whenever clear skies allow, and some updates on a citizen science project underway
Stay tuned!
