The Eagle Nebula, also known as M16 or by its much cooler title: “The Star Queen Nebula”, is an emission nebula located in the Sagittarius Arm of our Milky Way. It was made famous when the central structure, dubbed “The Pillars of Creation”, was imaged in amazing detail by the Hubble Space Telescope (and by JWST many years later). The nebula contains several active star-forming gas and dust regions, and is rich in ionized hydrogen leading to it’ reddish appearance.
