God’s Hand, CG4, or “Shai Hulud” if you’re a Dune fan, is what’s known as a “cometary globule”, due to its resemblance to a comet. The head, or “mouth”, of the nebula is composed of dense matter that is iilluminated by ionized hydrogen. Adding to it’s unique features, the mouth of the nebula appears ready to consume the galaxy ESO 257-19.
