
Known as The Jewel Box or NGC 4755, this open cluster is found within the constellation of Crux. Named by John Herschel, who likened its beauty to “…a superb piece of fancy jewellery”. It can be seen by the naked eye as a fuzzy star positioned somewhat southeast of Mimosa. This cluster is recognized as one of the youngest known, with its age calculated to be around 14 million years. It is home to slightly more than 100 stars.
