The Pencil Nebula (NGC 2736) is a fragment of the much larger Vela Supernova Remnant. Approximately 11,000 years ago, when a star went supernova, it sent out gas and shockwaves in every direction, leaving this fragment moving at roughly 644,000 kilometres per hour away from the source
