The Orion Nebula

The Orion Nebula, possibly the most famous of all nebulae, is the closest massive star forming region to earth and is even visible to the naked eye under dark skies. Located in the Orion Constellation, and measuring 25 light years across, it contains a young open cluster called the Trapezium cluster at it’s core that brightens nearby ionised oxygen and hydrogen. The combination of all these features has lead to Orion being the most studied and photographed nebula in the night sky.
